Students at a college in Cambridge have put on a charity casino night to raise money for a cause that certainly needs more attention – the care of the homeless, giving them new ways to get back on their feet as well as providing for them in the meantime. The Churchill College students were the organisers and croupiers at the event, with guests being invited from amongst their friends, family, and local people.

Though there were no casino fruit machines to be played, guests could find just about everything else on offer, with a range of table games that spanned from poker to craps and provided a lot of entertainment throughout the evening. There was also a twenty piece band serenading them for the duration of the event, the Churchill Jazz Band, in order to bring a great sense of atmosphere to the proceedings and keep everything feeling very cheerful and exciting.

There were even live cookery demonstrations taking place to promote the facilities at the college, so there was plenty to look at even for those who were not very interested in gambling, and there were food and drinks on offer too to make sure that everyone could stay for longer without having to go elsewhere to get their hunger and thirst looked after. It was members of the conference team who put the whole night together, and they made a real success of it too – with a total of £1,000 being raised to benefit the charity.

Some of the money was going straight to FLACK, a magazine which is based in Cambridge and which directly benefits the homeless cause. It is written by homeless people, produced by them – which is certainly something that donations will help with – and then distributed by them, to provide a revenue source which they can work on as a team in order to share the profits and get them back on track towards renting a flat, getting a job, or even just getting a hot meal and a shower once in a while to improve their quality of life on the streets.
